Clean Water Creates Joy & Possibilities – Moosehill Love & Donation Program #1
Getting a glass of clean water is something most of us take for granted. But for the 70 people living in Madonkeh village, Port Loko District, Sierra Leone, it used to be a daily struggle - until Moosehill Outdoor Apparel & The Water Project stepped in to help.

Back in March 2025, Moosehill made a donation to The Water Project that actually made a real difference for these villagers. What's even more special is that this was made possible together with Moosehill's caring customers. You can find all the details about this meaningful campaign on Moosehill's Love and Donation Program.
Let me tell you Madonkeh's story:
Most families here survive by farming and making palm oil. But without reliable water, they could never grow enough food or produce enough oil to properly support themselves. Their only water source was a dirty stream nearly half a kilometer away, through dangerous bushland where snakes and wild animals often attacked people fetching water.

Isatu, a 18-year-old girl from the village, told us: "Carrying water was so hard for me. The path was long and rough through the bushes. Sometimes I couldn't even carry enough for my family's needs."
Yaeah Kargbo, a 53-year-old villager, explained their fear: "Getting water was our biggest problem. The path to the stream was dangerous, especially when it's hot - that's when snakes become aggressive. I couldn't let my children go alone."

Because the stream was so far, people had to wash clothes and bathe right in the same water they drank from. This made the water even dirtier, causing many cases of typhoid and diarrhea. The water looked green, smelled bad, and felt slimy.
Thanks to Moosehill's support, everything changed. The Water Project was able to build a proper well for Madonkeh - 24 meters deep with clean water at 11 meters. They built a solid cement platform with walls and drainage to keep the water clean. Tests confirmed the water was safe to drink.

At the well's opening ceremony, the whole village celebrated with singing and dancing. Yayea Kargbo, a palm oil farmer who now heads the water committee, said: "This well means I can farm properly and support my children's future. My family won't get sick from dirty water anymore."

Isata, added: "Now I can stay healthy, get to school on time, and do better in my studies. My parents' lives are easier too."

This is what happens when people come together to help. Moosehill's donation - made possible by their customers - didn't just give a village water. It gave them health, time, safety, and hope for the future.
Every drop of clean water tells a story of change. And this story shows how ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference.

Want to be part of the next story of hope? There are always more communities waiting for help.
